All the contributors agreed that while there is a space for authors on BookTok, it largely remains a reviewer space where creators publicly post their opinions. Brittany (@whatbritreads; 56,200 followers) explained: "I think authors can fit really well into BookTok and it's a great platform for them to connect with readers... as long as they engage in a respectful way and know when it's not their place to contribute to a conversation, we can co-exist in the space and it works perfectly." Emily (@emilymiahreads; 72,400 followers) agreed, adding how there "does need to be a slight divide [between authors and readers] which becomes harder as more BookTokkers become authors". Alice (@bookswithalice; 13,600 followers) noted: "[Authors] have to navigate BookTok in a unique way [by] not invading reviewer spaces about their own books. It's a dangerous thing for them as not everyone will love [their] book." Brittany added that "a lot of authors...navigate the space well and are particularly respectful not to cross any boundaries". Lewis (@achilleanshelves; 18,500 followers) concurred that there are "reviewer only spaces" on BookTok, but "there is also a huge place for authors and publishers to promote their books".
