When I started work on The Glass Woman in 2017, I decided to write about what I feared. The novel is a discomfiting psychological thriller about Artificial Intelligence and surveillance, with a young female neuroscientist as the protagonist. It is also about memory, identity, grief and love, as well as autonomy and control, exploring AI as a manifestation of human desire to go beyond our own limitations. I wrote a character who has purposefully distanced herself from her own humanity and is living with the consequences. She has made a machine of herself and must find a way to undo it, before it's too late.
