Submissions are being accepted until June 8 in one of the industry's longest-named awards, The Sunday Times / Peters Fraser + Dunlop Young Writer of the Year Award. The prize programme is designed to honour fiction, non-fiction, and poetry writers between the ages of 18 and 35 in the UK and Ireland.

Its key sponsor is the literary agency Peters Fraser + Dunlop and last year introduced an association with the University of Warwick's writing program. A part of the winner's prize is a 10-week residency and a year of mentoring. The British CouncilThis government-supported body is best-known for its activities overseas, but in fact provides a great deal of information which is of interest to writers. http://www.britishcouncil.org/
Their UK Literature Festivals provides a full listing, but this is only as up to date as the information supplied by the individual festival organizers.
is also involved, as an international partner of the prize programme.

The prize was founded in 1991 but has had an uneven presence, having been suspended in 2008, then revived in 2015. It's one of the few large prizes that accepts submissions of both trade and self-published works.

The winner of the prize gets £5,000 (US$7,038) and each of three runners-up are given £500 (US$703).

This year's shortlist is expected to be announced on November 4, and the winner will be known December 6. On the submissions page at the Society of Authors, which administers the program, there's an option for publishers submitting their authors' work and for self-publishers submitting their own.
