BookBrunch - Book Aid International's Children's Corners

In 2014, library development charity Book Aid InternationalSupplies much-needed books to developing countries, raising funds from publishers and general public; 'Reverse Book Club' is masterly idea-for just £5 ($10) month you can provide 48 books to go to where they're most needed set itself an ambitious target: to establish 60 Children's Corners - designated spaces for children in African public libraries - over a three-year period. The project, which is based on a Children's Corner model already developed by Book Aid International, aims to reach six African countries (Tanzania, Uganda, Malawi, Cameroon, Zambia and Zimbabwe), and will cost an estimated £600,000.

Just over half way through the project, things are progressing well. Book Aid International, together with its library partners in Africa, has already supported the establishment of 21 new Children's Corners in Tanzania, Uganda, Malawi and Cameroon, and work is due to begin on extending the project to six libraries in Zambia in September 2015. The appeal has raised more than £300,000 in funding, and thousands of children in Africa are now benefiting from their new Children's Corners.
