H G Wells Short Story Competition
Deadline: 22 July 2012
Eligibility: open to all writers
First Prize: £1,000
Entry fee £5, free for writers under 26. For stories between 2,000 and 5,000 words, with a broad theme of The Sea.
These can be in any genre and the H G Wells Festival would welcome a handwritten copy in addition to a typed copy. Handwriting is not obligatory but will be worth 10% of the scoring.
Prizes
There are three cash prizes:
- The Turnill Prize of £1,000 will be awarded to the winning entry from authors aged 25 and under.
- The Grand Prize of £250 will be awarded to the winning entry for authors aged 26 and over.
- The Folkestone Town Mayor's Handwriting Prize £100
- All shortlisted stories will be published on an anthology.
- Please submit each entry, typed in double-spaced on A4 paper with page numbers. Also, include a handwritten version of your story.
- Entries should be submitted anonymously, accompanied by an entry form with all your details (download from www.wellsfestival.com, where all further details can be found).
