Content Editor (ELT)

A leading independent ELT publisher is currently looking for an experienced editor to join their team and work on a range of multi-component print and digital materials. This role is based in their Reading offices. 

 

Key duties:

  • Project manage a range of print and digital products through the editorial process
  • Content-edit and copy-edit manuscripts and proofread proofs where appropriate
  • work closely on all projects with other members of staff in editorial, digital, marketing, and production
  • Develop a thorough knowledge of all material produced by the company
  • Keep up-to-date with changes in the ELT market and ensure all materials produced are fit for purpose

Experience / skills required:

  • You must be an experienced and highly competent content editor
  • Experience in ELT/Educational publishing high desired
  • Experience of working on multi-component products is required
  • You will have a proven track record of project managing in a publishing environment
  • Some international travel will be expected as part of this role
  • Teaching experience, ideally in ELT, is desired but not essential

Assessment Sales Executive

An educational software and assessment company in London is seeking a driven Sales Executive to sell their assessments into primary and secondary schools. You will sell to existing school customers as well as new prospects. This role would suit someone with a consultative sales approach and similar experience selling into schools or selling assessment materials.

 

Key duties:

  • Present assessments to senior school leaders at schools in your designated territory
  • Identify new prospects and follow up on all sales leads
  • Negotiate sales and upsell to customers
  • Maintain prospect lists and records on CRM software
  • Attend occasional trade shows and conferences
  • Be an ambassador for the company and develop expert knowledge of assessment solutions

Experience / skills required:

  • Proven experience selling into the education sector, preferably selling assessments
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to prepare and deliver a successful sales pitch
  • Strong negotiation skills

Our client, an international exam board based in London is looking for a Publications Officer to join their editorial department. This is a great opportunity for someone with solid editorial/production editorial experience to manage a number of projects from design concept to delivery.

 

Key duties:

  • Responsible for producing a range of products including exam papers, syllabuses, leaflets and brochures
  • Typesetting and proofreading exam papers, syllabuses and support materials
  • Ensure all content and design complies with the house style and guidelines
  • Ensure that products are produced on time and to budget

Experience / skills required:

  • Solid editorial/production editorial experience with educational/academic publishing
  • Good proven experience of working with Adobe InDesign, illustrator and/or Photoshop
  • Strong layout skills, copy-editing and proofreading skills

You will be the liaison for all sales force requirements as well as being the customer and author liaison for order processing. This role provides general administrative support, including completing key retailers and wholesalers monthly and quarterly sales spreadsheets. Cambridge University Press Academic division is looking for a Commissioning Editor to drive forward the development of the STM Open Access journal programme. You will work across STM to drive forward the creation, development and delivery of a significant number of Open Access titles.

YOUR ROLE:
As Senior Sales Manager your role will be to manage a wide variety of UK trade accounts from high street booksellers and wholesalers, to mass market and discount retailers. Reporting directly to the UK & Export Sales Director, you will be highly motivated and target driven, with the ability to spot and create sales opportunities. Working as part of a professional and lively sales, publicity and marketing team, you will be expected to contribute fully to ideas and strategies to grow sales.

 

YOUR SKILLS:
The ideal candidate will have at least two years UK sales experience as a key account manager, with excellent communication skills and be highly motivated. Strong organizational skills are a must as is the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Previous experience of managing at least one of the major Supermarket accounts would be preferable but is not essential.

Product Specialist, Bloomsbury Digital Resources

The Opportunity

Bloomsbury Digital Resources is a brand new division which is developing a rapidly-expanding suite of innovative and academic digital library products. The Product Management team is responsible for developing new products and managing live sites, working closely with colleagues in Editorial and Digital Technology, ensuring that the products continue to meet market needs, through delivering timely product launches, content updates, and functional enhancements. Specific responsibilities will include our eBook platform Bloomsbury Collections, the new specialist subscription resource Bloomsbury Popular Music and other projects still in development.  

The Role
Product Management

  • Manage products after launch, supporting the Director of Product Management to ensure that content updates and enhancements are performed to an agreed schedule and within the agreed budget
  • Liaise with external software developers on day-to-day site management and bug-fixing
  • Liaise with sales, marketing and customer services to communicate addition of new content and product enhancements
  • Monitor sites for bugs and improvements, respond to customer and sales requests for product enhancements, and prioritise requirements based on business priority
  • Act as ‘product champion’, using product expertise to respond to queries from sales, marketing and customers, troubleshooting and escalating issues as required, and contributing to strategic development of those products
  • Provide regular website usage analytics reports and advise on opportunities for improving content & features based on analytics

Content Management

  • Manage the content requirements for new products, liaising with Content Architecture and Production teams on data planning, content conversion and content loading
  • Responsible for indexing content (either directly, or overseeing work of freelance indexers), and for creation and maintenance of taxonomies
  • Liaise with partner organisations over content updates and data issues
  • Manage the supply of product metadata to third parties such as MARC record suppliers and discovery services

Product Development

  • Support new product development during the proposal stage, through content analysis, competitive analysis or market research
  • Work with Editorial Project Leads to define product requirements during the Design & Development Phase of new products
  • Carry out market research with librarians, end-user interviews and User Experience research to ensure that product requirements meet user needs (both before and after launch)
  • Use the Bloomsbury Publishing Platform admin interface to build and configure new sites, working with Marketing and Editorial to agree site layout and visual design elements
  • Perform User Acceptance Testing during product development, reporting and ticketing bugs to ensure that the sites meet the agreed requirements

Skills, knowledge, experience

  • Experience of gathering and interpreting web usage analytics
  • Excellent implementation and time-management skills
  • An excellent eye for detail and a logical, problem-solving approach
  • Experience in working with XML and Content Management Systems
  • A firm grasp of web usability issues
  • Understanding of the needs of the academic library market
  • A proactive, “can-do” attitude
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn
  • A keen interest in developing a career in digital product management
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)

About the role
This role will involve working closely with external project managers to research, commission, develop and deliver our ambitious plans for entering a new secondary science curriculum. The role will also involve coordinating a large team of freelance content contributors (textbook authors, reviewers, video creators, assessment authors, etc.) to expand and deepen our digital textbook products. You would be a part of our Content team, which we're looking to grow by several multiples over the coming years.
 

Tasks include:
- Managing and coordinating external project managers on content delivery of digital textbooks

- Some hands-on editorial project management of curriculum-matched textbook and assessment content for secondary international and UK curricula

- Acting as the main point of contact for one curriculum for the Head of Content

- Delivering projects to agreed schedule and budget

- Research, development and commissioning of curriculum content

- Recruiting and managing senior educators and supporting them in creating the best learning experience possible

- Occasionally travelling to schools and conferences in Europe to help find authors and undertake research

- The role may grow to include line management responsibilities

Key duties:

  • Project manage the production of HE and ELT books from manuscript to delivery of final files
  • Manage all aspects of content production for multi-component titles
  • Manage freelancers and outsourced vendors including typesetters and indexers
  • Check all stages of manuscript, photo briefs and proofs, serving as primary Production contact
  • Work with the Head of Production and project stakeholders, agree on and monitor all project budgets
  • Support in all other production activity as required

Experience / skills required:
